At a small animal shelter in Ohio, a rescue dog named Lila has taken on a very special role — offering comfort to every new arrival.
Lila was once a frightened stray herself, arriving at the shelter shaking and withdrawn. But after months of gentle care, she blossomed into a calm and affectionate dog.
Now, whenever a scared or anxious dog arrives at the shelter, Lila senses their fear — and gently approaches to offer a reassuring nuzzle or a full-body “hug.”
Staff first noticed Lila’s behavior when she curled up next to a trembling puppy, resting her head on its back. Since then, they’ve seen her repeat this beautiful gesture again and again.
