Swans are known for forming lifelong bonds — but what happens when they’re separated?
In a small lake in the Netherlands, a pair of swans — affectionately nicknamed “Luna” and “Sol” by local photographers — were separated when Sol was injured and taken to a wildlife rehab center.
For nearly a year, Luna was seen alone, gliding across the lake daily — often pausing at their favorite nesting spot.
After months of rehabilitation, Sol was finally released back into the wild. What happened next left onlookers in tears.
As soon as Luna spotted Sol on the water, she swam at full speed across the lake. Sol trumpeted loudly — and the two swans began a breathtaking display: arching their necks together, circling each other, wings raised in a display of joy and recognition.
